Lighting should include selecting and using appropriate light meters and interpreting readings to determine aperture values when using the following techniques:

Split—when main light illuminates one side of subject (half-lit)
Rembrandt—half turned subjects, shadow on the short side
Loop—main light above the subject up to 60 degrees
Butterfly (or Paramount)—butterfly shape of the shadow under the nose
Broad—light source on the side visible to the camera
Short—light source on the opposite side from the camera
