Distinguish between short- and long-term goals.
Distinction should include
- specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) criteria for goal-setting
- short-term goal—typically a goal one can accomplish over a brief period of time that requires few new skills
- long-term goal—typically a goal one can accomplish only through acquiring additional knowledge and skills, thorough preparation, and/or one that requires incremental achievements over a long period of time.
