Plan a solution to an engineering design problem.
Planning should include
- defining an engineering design problem that you want to solve
- brainstorming and researching possible solutions for the engineering design problem
- planning the chosen solution
- identifying resources needed to produce the design (e.g., tools, energy, materials, people, time, information, and capital)
- illustrating the chosen solution, using sketches or drawings
- predicting how the design will work.
Process/Skill Questions:
- Why is it necessary to identify the problem and define the goal?
- Why is documentation of each step important?
- What are methods of illustration?
- What are some effective brainstorming strategies?
- What are some effective research strategies?
- Why is making a prediction valuable prior to testing the solution?
- Why is collaboration beneficial when planning a solution?
