Plan a solution to an engineering design problem.

Planning should include

  • defining an engineering design problem that you want to solve
  • brainstorming and researching possible solutions for the engineering design problem
  • planning the chosen solution
    • identifying resources needed to produce the design (e.g., tools, energy, materials, people, time, information, and capital)
    • illustrating the chosen solution, using sketches or drawings
  • predicting how the design will work.

Process/Skill Questions:

  • Why is it necessary to identify the problem and define the goal?
  • Why is documentation of each step important?
  • What are methods of illustration?
  • What are some effective brainstorming strategies?
  • What are some effective research strategies?
  • Why is making a prediction valuable prior to testing the solution?
  • Why is collaboration beneficial when planning a solution?
