Demonstrate respect for and safe treatment of animals.

Demonstration should include

  • handling animals gently, with the minimum amount of restraint necessary
  • ensuring that animals always have access to food, clean water, sufficient space, and a clean environment
  • identifying the basic equipment needed by animals (e.g., collar, litter box, bowls)
  • avoiding any action or inaction that is dangerous to animals’ health or life
  • adhering to all other guidelines provided by the instructor. 

Process/Skill Questions:

  • How can one determine the minimum amount of restraint needed to handle an animal?
  • What hazards in a classroom/lab should be removed before an animal is brought into the classroom?
  • What cleanup procedures should be followed after an animal visits a classroom?
