Identify the purpose and location of overcurrent protective devices (OCPDs) and service entrance equipment.
Identification should include following NEC and industrial standards to
- list the areas where OCPDs may be located in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities
- identify OCPDs from structural plans, appliance wiring diagrams, and available equipment
- differentiate between a short and an overload
- describe a blown fuse after a short and an overload
- select the proper OCPD
- locate and determine type of service equipment.
Process/Skill Questions:
- What is an OCPD, and what is its purpose?
- What code article references the standard sizes for OCPD?
- What breaker size should be used on a 14 AWG wire?
- When does the NEC allow wires of different sizes on the same circuit?
