- undergoing safety instruction and testing prior to operating power tools, machinery, or equipment
- following all required safety procedures and instructions for the assigned task/application
- wearing required PPE for the selected task/application to prevent electric shock, burns, and contact with intense heat, fire, sparks, hot slag/debris, radiation, intense arc light, fumes, oxides, and noise for plasma arc cutting

- hand – gloves
- foot – rubber/leather boot
- skin protection – welding apparel
- lungs - respiratory mask

- examining cut surfaces
- shutting down equipment properly.
Process/Skill Questions:
- Why are various methods needed for cutting metals?
- Why is it important to always perform a leak test before using a torch?
- What are the proper procedures for shutting down the plasma cutter? The oxyacetylene welding unit?
