Cut metals.

Cutting should include

  • undergoing safety instruction and testing prior to operating power tools, machinery, or equipment
  • following all required safety procedures and instructions for the assigned task/application
  • wearing required PPE for the selected task/application to prevent electric shock, burns, and contact with intense heat, fire, sparks, hot slag/debris, radiation, intense arc light, fumes, oxides, and noise for plasma arc cutting
    • head – helmet, caps, bandanas
    • face – face shields
    • eye protection – goggles, face shield, and /or safety glasses with appropriate lens shade
    • hand – gloves
    • foot – rubber/leather boot
    • skin protection – welding apparel
    • lungs - respiratory mask
    • ears (hearing) protection - ear plugs, earmuffs

  • using selected cutting techniques (e.g., oxy fuel gas, plasma arc)
  • examining cut surfaces
  • shutting down equipment properly.
