Demonstrate opening a sterile surgery pack.
Demonstration should include the following procedures to prevent contamination of the surgery pack
- placing the surgery pack on a clean, dry surface
- removing the tape securing the package
- opening the first flap away from the body, avoiding contamination
- opening the side flaps without reaching across the open pack
- opening the remaining flap towards the body.

- Why is it important to open the pack with the inside facing away from you?
- Why is it important to never touch the inside of the sterile surgery pack?
- What are three principles of sterile techniques?
- How can the indicator strip reveal the pack has been autoclaved?
