Service should include

checking the condition of the outer case for physical and heat damage
checking the connectors for corrosion and wear
checking the state of charge
checking the electrolyte level and specific gravity
cleaning the battery
removing corrosion from terminals
charging the battery to proper voltage as outlined in the battery service manual
adding distilled water as required
performing a capacity check to determine the strength of battery cells.
