JROTC: The Organization and Traditions of Service

In this lesson, Cadets learn how the chain of command facilitates the operation of a large, structured organization. Please include the following cybersecurity-related discussion:

Slide 9: After Cadets read the Organization of the JROTC Program in their student text, pull up the Army JROTC Cyber Logo. Discuss the mission: "To motivate young people to be better cyber citizens, to inspire interest in the cybersecurity field, and to strengthen the nation’s cyber defense workforce." Note that the first Army JROTC Cyber program was implemented in schools in 2022. Share the program’s vision: The Army JROTC Cyber program will create a pipeline consisting of a diverse cybersecurity workforce to meet the needs of business and industry; federal, state, and local government; and the military. JROTC Cyber will modernize and complement the traditional JROTC curriculum with an innovative curriculum designed to inspire and prepare rising generations for careers in cybersecurity. Discuss how these compare with the other JROTC programs.
Slide 21: Note that organizational charts are used by medium and large-sized companies too. Note that cybersecurity should be practiced, supported, and enforced by company leadership and all parts of an organization should be involved in the process of securing information.
