Preparation could include

  • evaluating the kind of portfolio needed
  • selecting a format for sharing the portfolio (e.g., hard copy, electronic)
  • student competency records and results of career exploration activities to inform a personal vision statement
  • cover letter and résumé
  • letters of recommendation
  • collection of exemplary classroom work, certificates, and awards
  • records of participation in school- or community-related activities
  • industry credential certificates or licenses
  • summaries of relevant work-based learning experiences (e.g., job shadowing, service learning, internship)
  • examples of skills (e.g., photos of finished projects).

  • What models are available to job seekers wishing to develop an effective professional portfolio?
