Demonstrate the use and application of foam in various fire situations.
Demonstration should include
- determining the type of materials that are fueling the fire
- choosing the appropriate class of foam per fuel (i.e., Class A or Class B)
- using the correct proportioning and concentration method, including
- induction
- injection
- batch-mixing
- premixing
- selecting the foam delivery device, including
- hand-line nozzles
- medium- and high-expansion foam-generating devices.
Process/Skill Questions:
- Why would a fluoroprotein foam be used to fight a fire?
- What is the bank-down method, and in what situation might it be used?
- Why might poor foam generation be experienced?
- What are the restrictions on the use of foams that contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Virginia?
- What is the difference between the use of fog nozzles vs. foam nozzles?
