Following safety procedures and protocols should include

  • identifying potential safety hazards in the classroom, lab, land lab, and greenhouse
    • physical
    • chemical
    • biological
    • ergonomic
  • explaining general safety
  • discussing classroom/lab rules, procedures, and protocols
  • passing all required safety tests with 100 percent accuracy for general safety, tools, machinery, and equipment
  • following all requirements related to wear, use, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • recognition of classroom, lab, greenhouse, etc., evacuation routes
  • recognition of fire extinguisher location(s)
  • recognition of first aid kit/station location(s)
  • explaining potential environmental hazards floriculture professionals and workers encounter (e.g., weather, heat, cold, air quality, noise) and how this affects an employee’s ability to complete job assignments
  • demonstrating industry-recommended safety practices, procedures, and adhering to guidelines when using tools, machinery, equipment, and other supplies in the classroom, lab, greenhouse, and/or land lab.
