  • permanent physical damage
  • impairment of mental health and abilities
  • impairment of brain development
  • inability to self-regulate or control one's behavior
  • inability to trust or love others
  • lack of self-esteem
  • failure in school
  • violent and/or other antisocial behavior
  • death.
