Course Description:

Students acquire basic knowledge of the respiratory therapy field, with a focus on the role and importance of respiratory therapy in patient care. Instruction includes an introduction to the healthcare field, as well as basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and disease processes; equipment; safety; essentials of patient care; and legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities. The course also emphasizes critical thinking skills and career opportunities in the field of respiratory therapy. Contextual instruction and student participation in co-curricular career and technical student organization (CTSO) activities will develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students' career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations.
