Build a model or prototype of the proposed solution, as part of a team.

Building should include

  • using detailed drawings (e.g., paper and pencil, computer-aided design)
  • building a simple model
  • assessing the model for possible problems
  • producing your model or prototype
  • testing the model or prototype
    • physical testing
    • experimenting
    • evaluating how it meets criteria
    • evaluating appropriateness of materials
  • improving the design.

Process/Skill Questions:

  • What are ways a group could split up responsibilities?
  • Why is building a model/prototype important?
  • What possible problems might the team encounter during a model/prototype build?
  • What factors might influence design improvements?
  • What tradeoffs were made in the design solution?
